ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Tamil, established in the year 1955, offers additional language courses in Tamil for students of B.A, B.Sc, and B.Com. Prof. S. David was the first Head of the Department. The Department of Tamil gives students an understanding of Classical Tamil Literature and helps them achieve practical communication skills for professional growth. The Department envisions job-oriented education. To improve the communication skills of students and enable them to communicate in Tamil effectively the Department will offer a Certificate Course in Communicative Tamil soon. Members of the Department function regularly in the Board of Studies (UG). The Tamil Department institutes the Prof. S David Memorial Gold Medal for two students who achieve the highest mark in B.A/B.Sc and B.Com.

RESEARCH

The Department is engaged in active research and conducts various research activities in the fields.
